I still can’t believe there are agents who thing the entire Denver metro or entire Los Angeles area is their market area. It makes me chuckles every time a real estate agent says this to me.
First of all, why are you driving 50 miles every day to serve your clients? That seems like a waste of valuable time. Secondly, why are serving clients in markets you don’t really understand? Wouldn’t you rather focus on an area that is specific?
I recently had my hip replaced and I didn’t just seek out a general surgeon. No, I wanted to seek out a specific surgeon that specialized in hip replacements, that did a lot of them and that was really good at them. I did the same thing when I had LASIK surgery many years ago.
I didn’t just go through the Yellow Pages and pick a random doctor and say, “That guy looks good.” I did my research. I knew who I was going to be doing business with and what I was getting into.
The same thing is true for buyers and sellers in your market. They want their real estate agent to be an expert, a specialist. Someone who really knows about them, their market area and what they want.
So I tell you this, pick out a luxury subdivision, a golf course community, an area where the luxury and high-end home are. Find that area and start learning about it and the people who live there. Start publishing content about that area and prove to affluent prospective clients that you have the knowledge that they are seeking.
Be an authority and demonstrate your abilities upfront and you will attract those clients to call you and do business with you!
