A global pandemic in the eyes of realtors

What are the things that you can be doing in your real estate agent business given this crazy coronavirus situation?

I hope that you’re safe, healthy, you’re self isolating with your family, and I hope everything is okay in your world. This is a very, very tough time. I’m not certain I have all the answers and I’m not certain health experts have all the answers either, but I can give you some thoughts on the things that I’m doing, as well as, the things that I might be beneficial to you.

First of all, it’s your obligation and your responsibility to reach out to your database, your clients, and to your prospective clients to check in and see how they’re doing. The circumstances are different for everyone and its essential to ask how they are handling this global pandemic. Yesterday I sent out a blog voicing my thoughts and prayers to anyone that has been affected. I also addressed the repercussions of this virus and how it concerns my market with various stories and articles links that I thought would be of interest. A couple minutes went by and then I received a lot of responses from the email and people thanking me for keeping them up to date. This was a way of serving my clients and more importantly, serving them during these unprecedented times.

Secondly, it’s super important that you have a positive state of mind. I believe in times like this our faith is challenged and we need to realize that we are not in control. Sometimes as real estate agents we feel like we’re in control of everything, but this is a classic example of how we aren’t. Regardless of your religious views or your beliefs, it’s certainly a time for prayer, reflection, and a time to focus on what you can control. If you’re healthy and your family’s healthy, be thankful for that. Be grateful  and just think of the all the things that are controllable in your life.

Thirdly, make sure you’re taking the precautions to keep yourself healthy. This includes all of the recommendations we’re receiving from health professionals such as, hydration, sleep, exercise, eating appropriate amounts of vitamin C, and anything that you can do personally to deal with this mentally and physically. Unfortunately this is a downtime in my market. Even if we were allowed to show property, there’s nobody here to show property to. It’s probably going to be a long time before that happens, but the take away here is that we’re going to come out of this and it’s not going to last forever.

Focus on the steps you’re going to take right now to be successful and develop a plan for the steps you’re going to take once this global crisis is over. We want to be reactionary. React to this event rather than being stuck in the chaos of it all. You should align your focus on the things that you can control and concentrate on the things that can keep your mind positive. Take this time to make progress in your personal life, in your health, and in your family.
Look at this isolation period as an advantage to implement improvements in your real estate business plan so that you can be successful!
