I get involved with my community all the time. Not just because it makes me feel good, or because it’s the right thing to do. It’s okay to be a little bit more strategic about it.
In downtown Crested Butte, there’s an organization called the Center for the Arts, and one of the fundraising campaigns that they have is something called the Tour de Forks. People open up their homes, there’s a chef that comes in and I volunteered many times to be a server at one of those events. I’ve attended those events on regular basis.
It’s a fun evening and a great opportunity to also give back. But I was a volunteer at one of these events, and not too long after that event at this specific home the homeowners called me.
They said, “We appreciate the fact that you’re aligned with the interests that are important to us. We saw you washing dishes and serving and we thought you would be somebody that we want to do business with when we get ready to sell our home. We’re ready to sell our home, and we’d like you to come talk to us about listing our home.”
This was nearly a four million dollar home and listing that I earned and help them to sell that property at asking price!
So start thinking about some of the organizations in your community where your dream clients hang out. With just a little commitment of your time and/or your money you can give back to your community and differentiate yourself to your dream client!
