Are You In The Right Line?

I was recently in the airport flying back to Colorado from Fort Lauderdale and was in line for security when I thought about how this moment related to our real estate agent business. I’m a TSA member because it saves me time and less hassle, and I travel a lot. I was trying to get through security and thought I was in the TSA line when I noticed that the people around me did not look like TSA travelers. Not being judgmental or anything, but generally TSA travelers are a little bit more fluent. They understand what they are doing, ya know? Non-regular vacation traveler’s kind of look lost. I was standing in line and just kind of looked at where I was and I said, this isn’t the TSA line. I’m in the wrong line…

And this is when I thought about being a real estate agent.

Does it feel wrong working with your particular clients? Do you wake up every day and say, gosh, I wish I was working with different clients, more affluent clients, more luxury homes..? I’ve always said that regardless of the size of the transaction, the work is pretty similar. Generally, what I find is even the more affluent buyers and sellers are easier to work with. Do you just get that feeling in your gut that you’re working with the right people? Are you identifying who your dream client is?

You need to challenge yourself. Think about the medium price point in your market and then go above that as your target area. Go somewhere above the median and as high as you can go. And then you need to figure out where they are in your market, where they are online and offline.

Being in the wrong line here at the airport reminded me of the benefit of working with the right people. When I switched lines, I got through very smooth. It was less hassle. A smooth transaction. And that’s really what our clients want as well. If you are working with the right people, it will be smooth. It won’t feel like you’re working! So, target your dream clients. Make sure you are in the right line whether it’s at the airport, skiing or in your real estate agent business! It will make all the difference.
