Before I tell you how to fight like rocky I want to tell you about my dinner the other night and attracting your dream clients.
So the other night I had dinner with a dream client. They have kids that are in their teenage years. They’re a nice couple from Texas. We aligned with many sports – marathons, triathlons, golf, skiing, fly fishing, etc. They were part of my core demographic right? So why is it that a lot of the same things that they like to do and have done in their life are similar to the things that I like to do and that I’ve also done? Luck? I don’t think so…
It’s really by design. I attract the type of clients that I want to work with because I’m publishing specific content about myself that aligns with them. I’m putting myself out there as this person with specific passions and I’m attracting the people that are similar. I like to say, “birds of a feather flock together.”
Think about if you go to a gala event and there’s hundreds of people there. You’ll probably identify with other people that are similar and won’t spend a lot of time talking with someone that doesn’t have a lot of the same interests and passions as you. You’re going to sort of repel the people that aren’t like you or don’t have the same interests. And this is similar in our real estate agent business.
I’ve had people who have contacted me because I’ve done endurance races or my wife grew up in Tulsa. You need to talk about your story. Stand out and differentiate yourself and attract those dream clients. Take a little bit of a risk. Post those lifestyle photos, stories and articles. Whatever you like to do – photography, architecture, golf, etc. Don’t hide your passions and don’t let the clients that have more money than you scare you. That’s just one small component of who they are. I’ve talked to many real estate agents that tell me they are too scared to reach out to them. You can’t be scared. Very successful people and affluent people really appreciate hard work. They’ll root for you. Just like we all did for Rocky when he was in the ring with Apollo Creed, right? People will root for the underdog. Even if you haven’t achieved a significant amount of success, they will. You have to demonstrate and tell your story though.
And what I noticed was that it doesn’t feel like you’re working when you are serving people that you really enjoy working with and have aligned with. YOU can also enjoy it. So go above and beyond.
