One of the most important things to building a sustainable business is to be out in the community and to offer value. It’s not about YOU, it’s about serving your clients.

It’s why I get involved in my market in events like Tough Enough to Wear Pink. This is a fundraiser that raises awareness and funding for breast cancer treatment and research.

I go to that event every single year because I love that event. And guess what? Lots of very affluent people and my potential dream clients love that event too!

Because of this event we’ve recently been able to purchase a mammogram machine that cost over a million dollars. I love knowing that I was a part of that and my involvement brought something to the community!

The point here is that you need to focus on your community and that is how you get consistent business. So many real estate agents thinks it’s all about them. They want to focus on ME-ME-ME instead of actually serving their clients and giving back to their community and building trust.

I know that when I attend these events I will get to meet potential clients. This means that I carry my business card with me, but I’m not PUSHY!

You can walk up to people you haven’t met and talk to them. Most people will ask what you do for a living and then you can tell them. Offer them value upfront by directing them to your website, market reports and monthly newsletters and thereby earning their trust.

Once again, this is about how you can serve your clients at the highest level and be there for them. Put the focus on your potential dream clients and their needs, instead of focussing on yourself.

This is how you can create credibility and authority in your market AND give back to your community at the same time. People will get to know, like and trust you before they might even meet you!
